Since the death of Elizabeth II it seems that a sort of leaden pall of bad news has descended on the British Royal Family. The latest chronologically is the discovery by Princess Beatrice, Prince Andrew’s eldest daughter, of the news of the death of her first fiancé in circumstances not yet clarified. This is Paolo Liuzzo, who died at the age of 41 from a suspected overdose. The death occurred in February, but the news reached Princess Beatrice only now. The love story between Liuzzo and Beatrice begins in 2005, she is 17 years old, six younger than Liuzzo who is 23. However, the relationship has always been kept hidden until a year later, in 2006, the young man joins the princess’s family to spend your holidays in the snow of Switzerland. Not one of the wisest choices on the boy’s part. Four years earlier Liuzzo had been charged in the death of a student in Massachusetts after a fistfight. The charge was later upgraded to assault and battery for which he performed 100 hours of community service. The notoriety associated with that vacation led Liuzzo to be brought back to the United States: he had violated his probation, since he was only allowed to travel abroad for work. Beatrice’s mother, Sarah Ferguson had supported the relationship from the beginning. She stated: «We all face complex situations in life. We have to learn our own way. Beatrice is a sensitive girl, she will soon be 18 years old and she also has Paolo among her friends.” Paolo was well aware of the situation.
