VERONA – At 6.40pm on Wednesday 24 April, the firefighters intervened in Via Ruffoni in Verona due to a fire in an apartment in a condominium: rescued 15 people remained stuck on the upper floors due to the smoke that invaded the stairwell. The flames broke out in an apartment on the first floor of a 5-storey building with 20 apartments.

The firefighters who rushed from the station with three vehicles and 9 operators began the extinguishing and evacuation operations of the people stuck in the stairwell, which they had already inhaled smoke. Overpressure hoods are used by firefighters and are worn by people to cross areas filled with smoke. Of the 15 people evacuated, 11 were taken to hospital for further checks.
Once the complete shutdown and clean-up operations with the evacuation of smoke were completed, three apartments have currently been declared uninhabitable.
The causes of the fire are being investigated by firefighters. The rescue operations ended just before midnight.

Fire also in Brenzone

The other night however, at 2am on Thursday 25 April, the firefighters intervened in via Disciplina in Brenzone due to a house fire: one person was slightly injured.
The flames broke out due to reasons still under investigation in a small apartment in a three-family house. The owner, awakened by the sounds of the fire, managed to save himself. The man was then assisted on site by Suem healthcare personnel.
The firefighters, who arrived from Bardolino with three vehicles and 7 operators, began extinguishing operations, which had completely involved the house, managing to avoid the spread of the fire to the other residential units, which were currently empty as they were holiday homes.
The fire brigade’s complete extinguishing and clean-up operations ended at 7am, with the entire structure, which was currently unusable, made safe.
