Abbadini wins bronze in artistic gymnastics 34 years after Chechi

AGI – It’s an immediate medal for Italy’s artistic gymnastics team on the first day of the European Championships which opened today at the Rimini Fair. Yumin Abbadini won bronze in the individual general competition. The Italian, 22 years old from Bergamo, came third after scoring 83,765 points (14,333 on the bar, 14,066 on floor exercise, 14,233 on pommel horse, 13,700 on rings, 14,000 on vault and 13,433 on even bars). First gold for Cyprus thanks to Marios Georgiou (84.265), silver to the Ukrainian Oleg Varniaiev (84.031), already champion in 2015 and 2017.

Abbadini, engaged to the gymnast Elisa Iorio and student of Alberto Busnari, brought Italy back to the podium of the continental event in the individual general competition 34 years after Yuri Chechi, bronze in Lausanne in 1990. In the history of the European Championships only Franco Menichelli won the gold in this race, in 1965 in Antwerp. In Yumin Abbadini’s cabinet there are two other European medals, both in the team competition, the silver from Munich 2022 and the gold from Antalya 2023.
