The sudden announcement of Keanu Reeves as Shadow in Sonic 3 has pleasantly shocked fans of the film saga based on the fast blue hedgehog, known to most thanks to the numerous successful video games dedicated to his supersonic adventures.
The post-credits scene of Sonic 2 (2022) has made it clear that the long-awaited sequel will focus on the character Shadow the Hedgehog, who first appeared in the 2001 game Sonic Adventure 2. Therefore, it seems obvious that the third film takes inspiration from this video game.
In this regard, producer Toby Ascher began to reveal the cards during an interview with GamesRadar+: “This movie is going to be gigantic, fun and incredible and of course it is very inspired by Sonic Adventure 2 and some of the most beloved games”.
On the other hand, even the interpreter of Knuckles, the well-known Idris Elba, declared that Sonic 3 will be for pure fans, suggesting how much the threequel will have the courage to delve even further into theuniverse of the protagonistafter the first two feature films based mainly on video games from the Sega Genesis era, which were rather sparse in terms of the narrative dimension.
Obviously, like any self-respecting adaptation, Sonic 3 it will not be the mirror copy of Sonic Adventures 2, as already demonstrated by the presence of Tom and Maddie Wachowski (James Marsden and Tika Sumpter), absent in the video game counterpart. The release of the next chapter of the saga is scheduled for 20 December 2024 in Italy, so it is best to arm yourself with patience and wait for further news on the matter.
