GARLASCO (PV) – A young couple from Garlasco, in Lomellina, will have to answer in court for the accusation of having caused the death of their three-month-old daughter. According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the little girl was the victim of mistreatment and little care from her parents, both in their thirties.
The tragedy occurred on November 28, 2021. The mother, alarmed by her daughter’s condition, called the ambulance, saying she found her cyanotic in the crib and with breathing difficulties. Her baby, rushed to San Matteo in Pavia, did not survive.
As reported by the newspaper “La Provincia Pavese”, the autopsy provided crucial elements for the investigations, highlighting the mistreatment suffered by the little girl. The trial, expected in the next few months, will be fundamental in determining the responsibilities of the two parents and clarifying this dramatic story. Initially, a “cot death” was hypothesized, but the autopsy shed light on the dramatic reality. The examination revealed several fractures on the little girl’s body, although there were no signs of external violence. Furthermore, her baby showed signs of deterioration and weighed less than she should have.
Based on these elements, the Prosecutor’s Office requested the trial of both parents. The defense instead opted for the request for an abbreviated trial.
The case shocked the community of Garlasco and turned the spotlight on the delicate topic of child abuse. The trial, which will open in the next few months, will have to shed light on the responsibilities of the two defendants and establish the dynamics of the facts that led to the tragic death of the little girl.
