Liberation Day in San Casciano. A rich calendar of events kicks off

SAN CASCIANO – It’s a big celebration in San Casciano for the seventy-ninth anniversary of the liberation of Italy from the Nazi-fascist occupation.

Not just a solemn ceremony on the day in which the entire community is called to sanction the values ​​of April 25th but a rich program of events that recall themes, places, characters and events of the passage of the front with the aim of celebrating and share a central page of national history.

About ten events promoted and organized by the municipal administration which make up the tricolor mosaic, resulting from the involvement of the associations and cultural realities of the area, in which historical re-enactments, shows, performances, concerts, screenings and literary meetings will alternate.

At the center of the Liberation Day of San Casciano are the women and men of the Resistance, retraced and narrated in the places where the partisans fought to conquer freedom and democracy.

April 25th opens at 10 am with the historical re-enactment organized by the Linea Gotica Pistoiese Association.

Like every year, the meeting is at the town hall where the wreath will be laid on the plaque in memory of the victims of the Nazi-Fascist occupation.

The procession will therefore start from Via Machiavelli and will wind through the streets of the town accompanied by the “Oreste Carlini” Musical Corps.

After the laying of wreaths at the War Memorial and the Stumbling Stones, speeches by the mayor of San Casciano will be held Roberto Ciappi and the vice president Andrea Morandi of the Tuscan Historical Institute of the Resistance and the Contemporary Age.

The ceremony will continue with the theatrical performance “Onore a voi” curated by Tiziana Giuliani with the involvement of classes 2B and 2C of the “Ippolito Nievo” led by the teachers Francesca Nencioni And Sandra Ancillotti.

At 1pm the delegations of institutional representatives will distribute themselves for the laying of wreaths at the Dante Tacci Park, at the American Cemetery, at the Tondo delle Corti, at Fabbrica, at Cerbaia, at Valigondoli and at the Montefiridolfi Monument.

In the afternoon, at 5 pm, the Circolo Arci San Casciano will host the concert of the “Oreste Carlini” musical body while at 9 pm the curtain of the Niccolini Theater will rise on the show “The dream of everything” by Pasolini… thoughts, writings and influences” of and with Samuel Osman. Free admission.

The wreaths will also be laid in Mercatale (9 am) at the memorial stone in I Cofferi and the Walk of Remembrance will start from the people’s house in Mercatale and will end with the traditional social lunch at the Mercatalina CdP.

The stages of the walk will reach the war shelters present in the area and more precisely Salvadonica, Macialunga, Perseto, Pian del Melograno.

The festival on April 25th will be celebrated in Montefiridolfi, at the War Memorial (12pm), with the theatrical performance “The Non-written Cippi”.

That is, the story of the tragic events that occurred in July 1944 during the passage of the front, edited by Gabriele Sani with the participation of the girls and boys of Montefiridolfi. The wreath-laying is scheduled for 12pm.

There will also be the vehicles of the Linea Gotica Pistoiese Association.

The program of initiatives is enriched by the screening of the new film by Carolina Manciniproduced by Anpi section XXV Luglio Mercatale, scheduled for Friday 26 April at 9pm.

At the Cinema Everest in San Casciano the film, created with the contribution of the Municipality, will be screened, “In our house there was freedom. Rosanna and Dante Tacci” with which the director retraces the dramatic events of the witness, daughter of the anti-fascist, politically persecuted, who refused the Duce’s pardon. Free admission.

The culture of memory to be protected and enhanced with the active participation of the new generations continues and materializes with the journey that from 2 to 6 May will lead the girls and boys of the “Ippolito Nievo” secondary school to the former Nazi extermination camps together with teachers, representatives of the municipal administration and the National Association of Former Deportees Florence Section.

The last event on the schedule promoted by the Municipality is the matinee, aimed at lower secondary classes, at the Teatro Comunale Niccolini, scheduled for 5 June.

“Those men and women. Memories of war and resistance in the Val di Pesa area and its surroundings”, dramaturgy and direction by Tiziana Giuliani, is the title of the show which will be performed by the girls and boys of 2B and 2C with the coordination of the teachers Francesca Nencioni and Sandra Ancillotti .

The theatrical event will be repeated in a version open to citizens at 9pm.
