Eastern Gardesana reopened with alternating one-way traffic after the landslide in Tempesta – Basso Sarca – Ledro

UPDATE. At 2.30pm today, 23 April, the alternating one-way system was reopened Ss249 “Eastern Gardesana”, which had been closed between Torbole (Trento) and Malcesine (Verona) following a landslide that fell after 11pm yesterday at kilometer 91.9, in the Tempesta area, in the municipality of Nago-Torbole. This was communicated by the local intermunicipal police of Alto Garda and Ledro.

A collapse occurred from the wall above the road which saw a man fall onto the roadway boulder of just over two cubic meters of volume. The event did not involve people or vehicles and the road was closed in both directions.

TORBOLE. New landslide, just before 11pm yesterday, Monday 22 April, along the state road «249» of eastern Gardesanaby location Storm, located halfway between the town of Torbole (in Trentino) and the municipality of Malcesine (in Veneto). A large boulder of approximately 1.5 cubic meters broke away at km 91.9 from the mountain side above the roadways, which had already been subject to several rockfalls required following several previous rock landslides. Other minor debris was added to it.

Among the first to arrive on site, shortly after receiving the report, the mayor of Nago-Torbole Gianni Morandiin the company of the police forces and the firefighters of RIva del Garda who took steps to place the necessary signs to indicate the interruption of vehicular traffic in both directions.


«We tried to understand if it was necessary to evacuate a family living in a house near the point where the landslide occurred – explained the mayor – fortunately there was no need. Joined by Giuseppe Lombardi, mayor of Malcesine, we also activated Veneto Strade for the road closure in the Veneto area”.

«The geologist from the Province of Trento reached us immediately to evaluate how to proceed – added Morandi – the road (as emerged at 02.00 am, ed.) will remain closed for the whole of today (Tuesday 23 April). In the early hours of the morning we will have more certain news and we will inform the citizens. The necessary rock climbing will have to be carried out, restoring the rockfall protection network and the road surface. I thank the geologist for the quick night-time intervention and all the volunteers who took action, as well as the police (Police and Carabinieri of Riva del Garda)”.
