There are two people currently registered in the register of suspects for the death of Ferruccio Paolo Carminati, the 53-year-old from Osi, killed on Wednesday 17 April in via Stezzano by a poplar tree that collapsed to the ground. One of these is assisted by lawyers Nicola Stocco And Andrea Pezzotta, the centre-right candidate for mayor. This makes the Democratic Party of Bergamo turn up their noses.

Massimiliano Serragroup leader of the Bergamo Democratic Party, underlines: «First as a citizen and then as a municipal councilor, I am particularly concerned to read that the center-right candidate Andrea Pezzotta has agreed to defend a suspect accused of manslaughter as part of the investigation for the tragedy which in Bergamo, on the way to Stezzano, cost the life of a motorcyclist who was struck by a tree which the technicians of the Municipality of Bergamo had authorized to cut down because it was unsafe”.

The role of the Municipality of Bergamo

The heart of the problem lies precisely in the fact that, in this matter, the Municipality of Bergamo is one of the actors at play: «Today, more than ever, the experience of Giorgio Gori and the virtuous results he achieved for the benefit of Bergamo have shown us how working full time to lead one’s municipal administration is an essential requirement. But running for mayor of Bergamo not only requires being able to guarantee complete availability and dedication, but also autonomy from previous professional interests and commitments. The uniqueness and delicacy of the mayor’s function, in fact, would lend itself to potential conflicts of interest arising today from a professional mandate and tomorrow from the institutional role of mayor who must defend the work of the city administration”.

In closing, the leader of the city’s Democratic Party then takes the opportunity to further highlight a problematic point that the center-left has been focusing on since the beginning of the electoral campaign, namely Pezzotta’s choice not to be full-time mayor.
