Simone and Pippo Inzaghi spoke remotely in the Dazn studios after the celebrations on the pitch for Inter’s Scudetto. They are very close, very touching words between them
“Where’s Goofy?” asks Simone when, overwhelmed by euphoria at having achieved a historic goal by dragging Milan into the party, he bursts into Dazn’s studio. The derby he awarded the second star it ended recently and the Inter coach reveals, if ever there was a need, what his relationship with his family is. His wife Gaia and his sons Tommaso and Lorenzo rushed onto the pitch to celebrate with him under the curve. “You should have made the first video call to me… I saw you calling, you must have spoken to dad” he warns him jokingly Philip.
Among the two brothers there has never been envy, or rather a unbreakable bondthe result of education imparted by parents, Marina and Giancarlo which the kids are very attached to. When Pippo was king of cups with Milan he underlined Simone’s feat of scoring a poker against Marseille in the Champions League in 2000 (first and so far only Italian). Both, as the protagonists have often said, fill the memory of their parents’ phones with photos of their children.
«I’m happy that everyone noticed Simone’s value, he deserves it” said Pippo, full of pride. The two speak on the phone countless times during the day, exchanging advice, impressions, judgments, sick as they both are with football. «My limit is not knowing how to leave work outside the home» Simone is keen to underline this in thanking all the family members for their patience. So he jokes when they ask him from the studio who he would leave on the bench between Lautaro, Thuram and his brother Pippo. «Oh, be careful how you answer, eh» urges Filippo. «Let’s have two strikers with the attacking midfielder so everyone can take to the field» replies the coach who passed his final exams in Milan, after already positive seasons at Lazio, winning his 20th championship.
«My brother did it an example as a player and then as a coach. He is a man of principles. Then as an older brother he came to check on me when I was with friends and went out in the evening. He is always present even if we live in different cities and each of us has made ourselves his family. The love between us will never change» says Simone.
“I have always been very protective of him” admits Pippo, who is three years older than his ‘little brother’. «I took him with me to the camp in San Nicolò. If they didn’t let him play, then I didn’t participate either. Football needs coaches like Ancelotti and my brother” as if to underline the importance of the empathy that Simone has created with the group.
«I don’t have any stone to remove from my shoes» underlines the Scudetto coach who twelve months ago, not a century, after the home defeat against Monza was one amen away from being sacked, as Pioli also underlined. «He remained calm and continued on his path even when ungenerous criticism arrived, without ever raising his voice. He’s Super too, he always has been.” Word of Superpippo. From the San Nicolò hole (the concrete pitch without doors in his hometown) to Milan colored in Nerazzurri. Ps: now dad Giancarlo will have to make room in the room dedicated to his children’s memorabilia for new clippings, posters and memories to keep.
