A 38-year-old worker – resident in Montagna di Valtellina (Sondrio) – is the victim of the tragic accident at work which occurred this morning in Laglio, in via della Chiesa, Torriggia district. The accident happened before 10am: for reasons still not well clarified – the Carabinieri and Ats were on site for investigations – the man was crushed by his excavator with which he was working in the area. The victim is Carlo Lenatti, a 38-year-old from Valtellina, owner of a sole proprietorship in Montagna di Valtellina.
From what we learned he was working on a private construction site to carry out excavations. The vehicle he was in overturned and crushed him. The man died almost immediately from his injuries. Other workers who were with him at the scene raised the alarm on 118. The arrival of the rescuers, although timely, did not save his life. A medical vehicle and an ambulance from the Red Cross, the Como firefighters, the carabinieri, the Labor Inspectorate Unit of the Como carabinieri and the technicians of the accident section of Ats Insubria are on site.
The regional councilor of the Democratic Party, Angelo Orsenigo, also spoke on the episode. “Yet another tragedy in the workplace: a massacre that must be stopped – he said – In 2023, Lombardy achieved a sad result: 172 deaths at work, of which 8 in Como. The massacre in our region continued in 2024: between January and February there were 27 fatal accidents, compared to 19 in the same period in 2023. More checks, more training and more support for workers and companies are needed. The news and the data call for urgent and clear action from the Lombardy Region. Dying from work can no longer be the daily reality of our territories”.
