The agenda for medically assisted suicide passes in the Chieti city council

The agenda for supporting the regional law proposal for a popular initiative for medically assisted suicide is passed in the Chieti city council.

Presented by the municipal councilor of the Democratic Party Paride Paci, the agenda was approved in second call with 13 votes in favour, 9 against and 5 abstentions.

“Today we have demonstrated that we are not deaf to the request for civility made by over 8 thousand Abruzzo people. Today this municipal council has demonstrated that we are ready, as municipal administrator, to ask our Region to intervene as soon as possible to approve the proposed law on suicide medically assisted”, declared the PD councilor.

Paci then specified that “very often there is confusion on these issues. The League group itself has, in fact, declared that it is against the agenda because it is against euthanasia. But here we are not talking about euthanasia. Medically assisted suicide it is very different and involves the direct intervention of the patient. It is therefore regrettable that the vote against very often comes due to a problem of confusion on the topic”.
