This morning the presentation of the program of celebrations organized by ANPI
VERCELLI – «It was never our intention to boycott the official demonstration, which we feel is ours in any case». This morning, Friday 19 April, the president of ANPI Vercelli, Giacomo Ferrari, closed the case linked to April 25th with these words. An anniversary that sparks controversy every year in Vercelli. Anpi had made it known that it had been excluded from the designation of the official speaker, decided exclusively by the Prefect.
“NO ONE WANTED TO BOYCOTT THE OFFICIAL EVENT”
«In relation to press reports on an alleged critical position of Anpi, it must be specified that the only element of truth is the surprise that was aroused by the designation of the official speaker by the Prefecture, a designation which was traditionally reserved, precisely for ‘Anpi» – said Ferrari, continuing: «This designation embarrassed us, since we had already spent many months trying to find an official speaker, with whom we had already made a commitment».
“THE PREFECT HAS APOLOGIZED: CASE CLOSED”
The case, however, ends: «The Prefect personally apologized to me» – states Ferrari – «and the incident ended like this. There was no preclusion on the part of Anpi regarding the speaker (designated, among other things, already in 2003). There has never been a desire to boycott the official event, which we feel is ours in any case. No document has circulated that would suggest such a gesture.”

THE PARTY IN THE OLD HOSPITAL SQUARE
With the “accident” now over, Ferrari illustrated the program that will characterize April 25th. «We will participate in the official demonstration and reach Piazza Cesare Battisti in procession, as already happened last year, together with other associations and ordinary citizens. In the afternoon, however, there will be a continuation of the celebrations.”
The program includes, in Piazza Antico Ospedale (former Pisu area), starting from 2.30 pm, workshops for children, games in the square organized by the Scouts, Radio 6023 Live, the raising of the flag (at 4.45 pm), a quiz game on April 25th, presentation of Gobetti’s book. Two concerts, at 7pm and 9pm, will close the day. The first will feature the Le Mondane group; the second, The Maleducatones. Furthermore, street food will be active from 2pm.
Ferrari also listed the events that marked the preparatory process for April 25th, characterized by two cycles of film festivals, the presentation of two books, a historical conference, some themed exhibitions and interventions in schools.
«Anpi Vercelli intends to demonstrate its identity during the celebration of April 25th. The procession is an act that seems useful to us to underline our identity and our involvement, even emotional, in the celebration of this festival which we consider of fundamental importance”, concluded Ferrari.
