Germany, producer prices rising in March: +0.2% on the month

Contrasting data comes from producer prices in Germany. According to the German Federal Statistical Office, they recorded an annual decrease of 2.9% in March, compared to -4.1% in the previous month and compared to -6.6% of analysts’ expectations. Over the month, however, there was a rebound of 0.2%, compared to -0.4% in February, even better than the forecasts of analysts who spoke of a flat trend.

We remind you that production prices refer to transactions between companies, in particular between the selling company with production plants located in Italy and the purchasing company which operates on the national territory or abroad. This index measures the changes over time in the prices that form in the first stage of marketing. Like the consumer price index, it is one of the main indicators of inflation.

The data is one of those closely observed by analysts as Germany is the leading economic power in Europe, fourth in the world after the United States, China and Japan; it is the fourth largest economy in terms of nominal GDP and the fifth largest in terms of purchasing power.
