From Thursday 24th to Saturday 26th October the great wines of the County of Gorizia will be the protagonists of the charity auction in favor of the Monastery of Castagnavizza, in the municipality of Nova Gorica, organized by the Association of the Knights of the Cru of Empress Maria Teresa. His associates gathered last March to define the details and decide the date of the event, which is now official: the auction, now in its third edition, will be held on October 26th in the ancient cellars of the Monastery, with the prestigious Dorotheum auction house in Viennaone of the oldest and most important in the world.

As in past chapters, it will be presided over by Brother Niko Žvokelj, Father Superior of the Monastery, and Riccardo Illy, Honorary Consul of France. Cru wines from the Slovenian vineyards of Brda and Vipavska Dolina (the Vipava Valley), which had been classified “in regard to their goodness” way back in 1787, together with the Italian ones produced in the areas of Collio, Aquileia and Colli Orientali, already belonging to the vast County of Gorizia and Gradisca.

For the occasion the Cru map will be presented created ad hoc by the French cartographer Yves Lagouche, active in Burgundy, who represents the territory with all the vineyards protagonists of this important project. The initiative is thus consolidated at the level of promotion and valorisation of the wines of a unique cross-border territory. To the 20 companies that had already joined the initiative, including the Italians Castello di Spessa, Fondazione Villa Russiz, Casa delle Rose, Conti Attems, Korsic wines, Ritter de Zahony, Rocca Bernarda, Sanzin and the Slovenians Burja, Jakončič Carolina, Klet Brda, Kmetija Princic, Kristancic, Leban, de Noüe Marinic, Nebo Winery, Rokovi Vinogradi, Stekar, Valter Sirk and Zarova, this year Subida di Monte di Cormons was also added.

The usual gala dinner will be held on Friday 25 October at Castello di Spessa in Capriva del Friuli, with wines from the County of Gorizia paired with dishes prepared by starred chefs. The program also provides that during the three days of the event journalists and guests can discover the vast wine-growing area involved.
