Silp CGIL-CGIL Matera: meeting in the Prefecture on critical issues in traffic police management
Descriptive text here

The meeting requested by SILP CGIL and CGIL Matera took place in the Prefecture of Matera to address the critical issues concerning the management of the traffic police in the province of Matera and specifically the Policoro detachment.” We learn this from a note which adds that “ The unions illustrated to the Prefect the intense awareness and denunciation activity that the SILP CGIL has implemented since last December – at a territorial and central level – regarding the serious operational difficulties suffered by the Provincial Traffic Police. of Matera, whose limited staff is insufficient to best carry out the institutional tasks delegated to them, with repercussions on the living and working conditions of the staff and on the control of the territory.
The union delegation informed the Prefect of the contents of the meeting with the Director of the Traffic Police Service, which took place last 20 March. On that occasion the SILP CGIL had requested the assignment to the Policoro Traffic Police Detachment of new cars and new computers, together with specific technical equipment of the Specialty (Plate Info, Poliscontrol, Top Crash) stored in the premises of the Matera Traffic Police Section and never supplied to the Detachment, despite this guaranteeing the Traffic Police service for the entire province of Matera. On that occasion, the elevation of the Policoro Traffic Police Detachment to a Traffic Police Subsection was also requested, in light of the imposing road surveillance tasks that it is called upon to carry out over a 24-hour period on the extra-urban roads of the Province of Matera.
We have highlighted that the expansion plan, which foresees 4 units at the Traffic Police and 10 units at the Matera Police Headquarters for next June, is a positive but insufficient fact, as it does not resolve the critical issues that afflict the offices , marked by serious shortages of workers, as highlighted by the SILP CGIL as early as 18 December 2023.
The Matera Traffic Police Section lacks such a high number of operators to the point that it has come to improperly employ members of the Inspectors role to carry out barracks guard/surveillance duties and radio room operators.
We have represented that, in our opinion, it is strategic to upgrade the Policoro Traffic Police Detachment to an ordinary Traffic Police Subsection, i.e. a more important garrison for which a higher number of personnel would be expected, so as to be able to better monitor the roads of the Province of Matera and, at the same time, alleviate excessive workloads for staff. With this solution, there would no longer be a need for the patrol cars of the Police Headquarters and of the detached public safety police stations to interrupt territorial control to carry out the detection of road accidents, in place of the Specialty.
The Prefect of Matera, in compliance with his own competences, has guaranteed that he will take into consideration and evaluate the feasibility of our proposal to elevate the Policoro Polstrada Detachment to an Ordinary Subsection, at the same time he has highlighted how the lack of staff in the Matera Section should resolved, and in this regard will try to request the sending of further units.
At the end of the meeting, the trade union delegation expressed its deep appreciation for the attention paid by the Prefect to the issues brought to his attention, demonstrating careful sensitivity to the issues addressed, given the relevance they have not only for the workers of police but also for citizens: where the former have the right to liveable working conditions and the latter have the right to fully efficient police facilities.
The SILP CGIL and the CGIL of Matera, awaiting further meetings for an update on the topics covered, will continue its initiative to protect the policemen.”
