LEGO 10341 NASA Artemis Space Launch System is not the first of its kind

LEGO ICONS 10341 NASA Artemis Space Launch System may be exciting, but it’s not quite the first set to approach NASA’s Space Launch System.

A first look at LEGO ICONS 10341 NASA Artemis Space Launch System via Redditor Spare_Promotion661 at Taoyuan International Airport in Taipei offered the first look at the LEGO NASA set at the latest. It is based on Artemis in November 2022, which debuted with the Space Launch System.

Taking inspiration from a 2022 launch means the LEGO Group has had some time to recreate the model, although this set isn’t the first to feature the space launch system.

LEGO City 60351 Rocket Launch Center was released in 2022 ahead of the debut of the Space Launch System and as such is only inspired by the system, rather than directly based on it.

Despite this, the two rocket models not only look similar but also appear to have the same width. The scale of the model in NASA’s 3,601 10341-piece Artemis Space Launch System is larger. It is interesting to see some aspects of the design of 60351 Rocket Launch Center including the barrel tub continue to be used two years later.

Otherwise, looking at the LEGO City set compared to the massive LEGO ICONS model showcases similar fundamentals but completely different approaches. The platform on which the rockets rest, for example, both have a wavy effect, but on contrasting scales.

The boarding ramp is also present in both versions but while one is sized for the minifigures, the other is similarly on another scale and the ramp is connected to a different scale.art of the rocket too.

It’s no surprise that 10341 NASA Artemis Space Launch System is more accurate than 60351 Rocket Launch Center but looking closely at the only two LEGO Space Launch System sets reveals how much has changed, yet at the same time remained the same.

LEGO has been part of my life since I was young. It all started when my brother sent me 7657 AT-ST. He guided me through my early years, through school, and finally through my journalism degree. I still have my entire collection on display proudly, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favorite of all the LEGO Themes in the group. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
