The three-time Oscar winner Meryl Streep will receive the Palme d’Or for lifetime achievement on the occasion of 77th Cannes Film Festivalwhich this year will be held from 14 to 25 May 2024.
The actress had only participated in the French festival in 1987 with A cry in the night, for which she won recognition as best actress. 35 years later, Cannes calls her back not only to receive the prestigious award for an extraordinary career in front of the camera, but to officially open the dance for the 77th edition during the opening ceremony Tuesday 14 May at the Grand Théâtre Lumière.
Meryl Streep thus follows in the footsteps of other very important figures of international cinema who in past editions have obtained the honorary Palme d’Or at the opening of the festival: from Jeanne Moreau, to our Marco Bellocchio, up to Catherine Deneuve, Jean-Pierre Léaud, Jane Fonda, Agnès Varda, Forest Whitaker or even Jodie Foster.
