Gas bonus for condominiums in Arera, what it is and how to obtain the benefit
Descriptive text here

Starting from 1 January 2024, after two years of extraordinary measures for its strengthening, the threshold for access to the social bonus, which consists of a discount on the bill for families in economic or physical difficulty, has been brought back to 9,530 euros for the ISEE, while for large families it is 20 thousand euros.

These bonuses also include the one for gaswhat can be cumulated with the electricity bonus and the water bonus and is due both to customers directly holding an individual supply contract and in relation to the use of a centralized condominium system powered by natural gas (for example, for heating).

How to request the bonus

The citizen or family unit is entitled to the bonus if theIsee is not higher than 9,530 euros for families with a maximum of 3 dependent children e does not exceed 20,000 euros for large families with at least 4 dependent children.

With the increase in the price of gas on the bill in recent months, several families have decided to apply for the social bonus. The value of that linked to gas is set by the Authority and varies monthly. The discount applied to bills varies depending on the season, being higher during the winter months, when gas consumption is higher, and lower during the summer months, when consumption is reduced. This mechanism ensures lighter bills during the colder months of the year.

The value of the bonus depends on several factors:

  • The number of members of the family unit indicated in the Single Substitute Declaration (Dsu).
  • The type of gas use, which may concern domestic hot water, food cooking, heating or a combination of these.
  • The climate zone where the gas supply system is located.

The value of the bonuses

To analyze the value of the bonuses, you can consult the table below which provides a guide to calculate the value of the social gas bonus based on the climate zone, the number of members of the family unit and the type of gas use.

The climate zones are identified by letters A/B, C, D, E and F. These zones are determined based on the climate of the geographic area where the gas supply facility is located. Each climate zone has a specific value for each of the following situations: domestic hot water and/or cooking use, heating only, and domestic hot water and/or cooking use combined with heating. The table then considers two categories of families: those with up to 4 members and those with more than 4 members.

The value of the social bonus varies depending on how gas is used by the family. For example, if a family of 3 uses gas only for heating and is in climate zone C, the value of the bonus will be 69.16 euros. However, if the same family uses gas for both domestic hot water, cooking and heating, the bonus will be 75.53 euros.

In 2023, families who received the social gas bonus thanks to an ISEE certificate of between 9,530 and 15,000 euros and who had fewer than 4 children received a reduced bonus equal to 80% compared to the ordinary bonus.

Since the social gas bonus is paid for a period of 12 months, in 2024 the families who still benefit from the bonus calculated on the basis of the 2023 ISEE certification (between 9,530 and 15,000 euros) will receive an amount equal to 80% of the to the ordinary bonus.

The condominium supply

There condominium supply must meet specific requirements regarding both natural gas and water supply.

For the condominium supply of natural gas, the return point shown on the condominium gas bill must relate to a condominium with residential units that use natural gas for the family home. Furthermore, the gas must be used for home heating and the gas supply must be active.

For the condominium water supply, this must be active and the family unit must have an active electricity supply contract for domestic use. If the Water Manager has not identified a direct water supply registered to a member of the Isee family unit, it assumes that the family unit uses a condominium water supply only if at least one member has a domestic electricity contract.
