The plague of drunk driving continues, two road accidents have occurred, in one the driver tested positive for alcohol. On Wednesday 17 April the Local Police of Cesena detected two road accidents. In the first, which occurred in via Ruffio around 6.15pm, a lorry and a Renault Clio were involved, driven by a twenty-five-year-old girl resident in Cesena. In an attempt to turn into a private courtyard, the car was violently hit by the pickup truck coming from the opposite direction. The driver, a forty-year-old of Romanian origin, and two other people were present on board the vehicle. Fortunately all those involved remained unharmed.

The second road accident occurred late in the evening, at 11.45pm, in via Padre Genocchi. A twenty-one-year-old Moldovan lost control of his car, a BMW 730, crashing into a parked car which, due to the strong impact, was thrown across the road, hitting a fence wall and bouncing into the street. The driver, uninjured, underwent an alcohol test and tested positive with a blood alcohol level of 1.5 g/l. The local police officers proceeded with the withdrawal of the license and with a criminal complaint.

The sanctions

The Local Police reminds you that the Highway Code regulates drunk driving in articles 186 and 186 bis. For driving with a blood alcohol level between 0.5 and 0.8 g/l, an administrative action ranging from 543 euros to 2,170 euros and the suspension of the driving license from 3 to 6 months are foreseen. In relation to driving with a blood alcohol level between 0.8 and 1.5 g/l, there is a fine of 800 to 3200 euros, arrest of up to 6 months, and suspension of the license from 6 months to 1 year. As regards driving with a blood alcohol level higher than 1.5 g/l, a fine ranging from 1500 to 6000 euros, arrest from 6 months to one year, license suspension from 1 to 2 years, preventive seizure of the vehicle and with the confiscation of the vehicle (unless it is registered in the name of a person unrelated to the crime committed).
