Important, interesting and well-attended meeting organized by the Rotary Club Cosenza Telesio on healthcare with the theme “What future for public healthcare”. Presented by the President of the Club Dr. Pierpaolo Ziccarelli, Dr. Pierino Di Silverio, National Secretary of ANAAO Assomed, the most representative Italian union of Medical and Healthcare Management, spoke.
Dr. Di Silverio in his speech, in front of an audience made up of experts and non-experts with in the front row the Mayor of Cosenza Avv. Franz Caruso and the President of the Medical Association of the province of Cosenza Dr. Eugenio Corcioni, highlighted all the critical issues of the public National Health System. He explained in a simple way how the responsibilities of the current state, which is very critical for the health of citizens, are conditioned by maneuvers adopted by the State. Maneuvers aimed at penalizing from an economic point of view those regions in which not only the expected LEAs and LEPS are not achieved, but also, for example, where advanced age and low birth rates penalize these regions. Furthermore, there is a lower life expectancy compared to regions such as Trentino Alto Adige. Not only with the laws, but also with the various commissioners of the regions, we wanted to give a push to increase the difficulties in accessing care for citizens and especially in Calabria, the only region in Italy not to leave the Recovery Plan.
Region in which major funding is diverted towards the private health service to the detriment of the public one. We must react to this state of affairs with awareness, greater participation and cohesion among citizens and healthcare personnel as a whole, aware that differentiated autonomy, driven by political will, further aggravates the precarious situation of Calabrian citizens . Other interventions were given by the Mayor of Cosenza Avv Franz Caruso and by the President of the Medical Association Dr. Eugenio Corcioni. Both harshly criticized national and regional politics, guilty of having favored this state of affairs, inviting reflection on the serious damage that political choices will cause on the guarantee of care and health, which are instead protected by articles of the Italian constitution.
