There is a speech made in the Chamber that has gone viral. These are the words of a woman who talks about abortion during the discussion of the Government’s proposed amendment to the PNRR regarding the presence of pro-life movements in clinics. The deputy of the 5 Star Movement Gilda Sportiellothe first to breastfeed in Parliament, made explicit reference to her personal life to reiterate the right that women have to choose about their lives without being subjected to the judgment of others.

«I’ll say one thing, I am a mother, I chose to be a mother. Fourteen years ago I chose to have an abortion, and you know why I say it here, in the highest place of democratic representation in this country, where even today someone finds it difficult to say the word “abortion” or do their legs tremble when it comes to abortion? I say it here because I wouldn’t want any woman who wants an abortion at this moment to feel attacked by this State” said the deputy.
“You made a man present this amendment. It is we women who choose what we want in our lives, whether to be mothers or not to be mothers. Nobody gives it to us or gives us the opportunity. You should just be ashamed!” she concluded the speech she had begun by recalling that nowhere in law 194 does it say that women must be convinced not to have an abortion. The congresswoman expressed great concern for women who feel judged and blamed.
To the Corriere della Sera Gilda Sportiello explained: «In the European resolution which talks about abortion as a fundamental right it is written, in black and white, that Italy is a country where the law is eroding. This amendment is a further step. I asked the government to commit to saying that associations that can undermine the choice of voluntary termination of pregnancy must be excluded. They said no. So that’s the goal.”
