The Chinese mobile phone manufacturer, after having amazed with its first electric car, a sales champion, has set a new record and already seems intent on selling it in Spain

That the SU7, first electric car made by Xiaomia “high tech” giant famous for its smartphones, is a success, the numbers say so: 50 thousand orders in the first half hour since the opening of sales and surpassed the 75,000 mark with momentum in the first 28 days of launch.

Objective 100 thousand by the end of the year

To deal with this massive demandthe newly formed car manufacturer Xiaomi Automotive had to increase production ratesand on the assembly lines so as not to disappoint the numerous customers who immediately began to turn up their noses at the prospect of over 6 months of waiting. To not get overwhelmed by a success far exceeding expectationsChinese managers remodeled their production strategy, managing to total 10 thousand examples produced in just 32 days, with 5,781 SU7s having already been delivered. The hope is deliver 100 thousand SU7s by the end of the yearbut, numbers in hand, Xiaomi must accelerate even further to satisfy the appetite of the Chinese market, unless, in the meantime, it decides to also export its sedan to Europe, as some rumors in the Spanish press seem to suggestwhich even hypothesizes the arrival after the summer.

The basic version costs 28 thousand euros in China

The Xiaomi SU7, which in China it is present in three versions, Standard, Pro and Max, with prices starting from around 28 thousand euros for the one equipped with a 73.6 kWh battery with a range of over 700 kilometers and a 299 horsepower engine. The Pro, on the other hand, reaches 830 kilometers of autonomy thanks to the 94.3 kWh battery while the top of the range, the Max, is equipped with two motors for a total power of 673 horsepower, powered by a 101 kWh battery and an autonomy of 800 kilometres, again calculated according to the Chinese CLTC cycle, much more optimistic than the European WLTP cycle. It is difficult to say whether Xiaomi will decide to make a further production effort and whether the arrival on the European markets is actually imminent, as well as hypothesizing pricesgiven that between customs taxes and import costs those of the country of origin would hardly remain.

One of the peculiarities of Xiaomi is that used electronic device sales points to “fish” for customers among the over 20 million people who own its products and convince them to buy an electric car by those who had never made one before a few months ago. Will it be able to do the same when (and if) it arrives in Europe, where it is already third in sales after Samsung and Apple?
