A first verdict arrives on the death of Mattia Giani. At least from a sporting point of view. In fact, the Thursday bulletin came out a little while ago, where the National Amateur League (LND) of Tuscany makes official all the decisions of the sports judge regarding the races of the previous weekend.

Among these we highlight a fine of 400 euros for Lanciotto Campi “for lack of ambulance and/or doctor (III General Provisions – Point 9 on Official Com. n.1 of the LND of 1.07.2023). Sanction commensurate with the omitted service, taking into account the fact that occurred” we read in the report of the territorial sports judge for Tuscany Cleto Zanetti, assisted by the AIA representative Orsini Mario, by the Deputy Judges Jacopo Piccioli, Federico Carpanesi, Leonardo Bianchini and Damiano Zaccaria.

In the bulletin we then read a detailed summary of how the events happened, including the arrival time of the first ambulance. “The Sports Judge, given that from the referee’s report and the attached supplementary note relating to the match in the epigraph, it emerged that the match was suspended in the 14th minute of the match – we read in the report –, for a serious episode that occurred to the ASD Castelfiorentino United player, Giani Mattia, who collapsed to the ground due to illness; that in the circumstance the footballer was helped by the guest masseur and by a doctor present in the stands who intervened with cardiac massage and the use of the defibrillator present in the changing rooms; that a first ambulance arrived after 17 minutes and continued the rescue maneuvers assisted by other volunteers who arrived a few minutes later with another ambulance; that the doctors did their utmost in resuscitation attempts and then provided for the urgent accompaniment of the player to the emergency room of the nearest hospital; that the serious event had caused a general discouragement of all the members of the two teams (manifested with a joint written declaration) and of the match director himself and that therefore there had no longer been the conditions to continue the match which was suspended on the result of the 0-0 moment”.

The sports judge’s bulletin then concludes with appreciation for the decision of the referee team, directed on the occasion by Niccolò Rinaldi of the Empoli section, to suspend the match and not restart it. Finally, it is specified that the remaining part of the match will be regularly recovered, as already announced in recent days, on Wednesday 24 April, after a stop period in the championship.
