Tragedy this afternoon in the Catania area where a 31 year old boy, Antonio Pistone died tragically at work after staying stuck between the cabin and the elevator door that he was working on. The drama took place on the afternoon of Thursday 18 April, in a building in Aci Sant’Antonio, a municipality in the metropolitan city of Catania. According to an initial reconstruction, the victim, a 31-year-old elevator maintenance worker, appears to have been called to the scene because an elevator in a two-storey building in via Marchese di Casalotto had blocked.
During the surgery something unexpected happened and in an instant the tragedy occurred. The 31-year-old was crushed between the elevator door and the moving cabin. A dramatic scene in front of which no one could do anything. The intervention of the firefighters was necessary to free the worker’s body, rushed to the scene both from the Acireale detachment and from the provincial command of Catania. When they pulled him out, there was nothing left for the young man to do and the 118 doctors who intervened on site were only able to confirm the death of the 31-year-old.
Rescued by medical personnel and transported to hospital, however, the woman who was stuck in the elevator. She too was freed by the firefighters but later after the first more urgent intervention. For her no physical wound but a strong state of shock psychological after being stuck for a long time knowing what had happened.

Also at the site of the tragedy were the soldiers of the local territorial command of the Carabinieri who started investigations into the case to reconstruct the exact dynamics that led to the 31-year-old’s death at work.
The news of Antonio Pistone’s death shocked the Catania town where the 31-year-old was known as a party organizer. There were many messages of condolence on social media. “We want to remember you with your smile, even when everything was falling apart you never stopped partying” some friends wrote. “You were always smiling, positive, a special boy can’t leave like that. Now I won’t see you in the evenings anymore, you won’t put me on the list anymore. What an injustice” wrote another, and again “Now you will make all the girls dance too stars in the sky, dance as only you could do up there too”.
