What is a community energy (Cer)? How do you take part? And how do you choose a renewable energy supplier?

Tuesday 23 April at 8.45pm citizens and families of the Verbano Valleys will find the answers to all these questions, during a meeting organized in the council room of Villa Frua in Laveno Mombello (Va). Two experts from the University of Insubria will guide the participants through new regulations and practical advice: Gianluca Ruggieri, environmental technical physics researcher, e Costantino Bongiornoengineer.

The workshop is part of the “ClimAttivo” program: a path to raise awareness on the major sustainability issues that the Cast association coordinates as part of the Bosco Clima project. This project – born from the collaboration between Comunità Montana Valli del Verbano, Campo dei Fiori Regional Park, University of Insubria, Prealpine Geophysical Centre, Lipu and Cast itself and carried out with the support of the Cariplo Foundation thanks to the F2C – Foundation program Cariplo for the climate, through the Call for Ideas “Climate Strategy” – aims to promote adaptation and mitigation to climate change at the local level, with actions in the area but also moments of dissemination and sharing. The event on the 23rd is free to enter, while to join the “ClimAttivo” program as a family, the registration form is available at this link.

Also as part of the Bosco Clima project, Tuesday 16 April in Rancio Valcuvia (It) took place the meeting Renewable energy communities and Pnrr, aimed instead at mayors, administrators and municipal technicians. After the greetings of the President of the Valli del Verbano Mountain Community Simone Eligio Castoldi, in this case Fabio Binelli, of the National Association of Italian Municipalities (Anci), Anita Tatti and Dino De Simone of the Lombardy Regional Energy Community ( Cerl) and Gianluca Ruggieri of the University of Insubria, moderated by Costantino Bongiorno also of Insubria.

«Energy communities (i.e. the place where members produce, consume, store and sell energy from renewable sources or exchange it among themselves) are a great opportunity, but also a complex and technical matter – explains Ruggieri – therefore better informing the administrations on the one hand and the citizens on the other is an essential step to make them an instrument in the fight against climate change. People who talk together about energy and begin a common journey will in fact be led to reflect better on their own habits and consumption, thus achieving not only savings in economic terms but also greater awareness.”

At this moment the great opportunity is also represented by the funds and incentives available: 2.2 billion euros from the Pnrr (National Recovery and Resilience Plan) for municipalities under 5,000 inhabitants and 20 million euros from the Lombardy Region. Regarding the latter, in Province of Varese, 11 projects were pre-selected, of which 5 in small municipalities involving almost 171,000 citizens (20% of the total).

They therefore appear important economic benefits for the construction of the plants and savings on consumption for municipalities, citizens and businesses, which will be able to produce energy from renewable sources, thus limiting the release into the atmosphere of climate-altering gases produced from fossil sources. Bosco Clima also provides a support and information service for those who wish to reduce their consumption, create new Cers and carry out energy requalifications.
