At 4pm today, April 17, the first day of the hunger strike in front of the Ministry of Health in Rome, immediately after having installed the garrison, at the invitation of the head of the secretariat of the Undersecretary Marcello Gemmato, Gianni Fabbris held a meeting at the Ministry.
In the absence of Undersecretary Gemmato, Gianni Fabbris met with Dr. Ettore Ruggi D’Aragona, head of the Undersecretary’s secretariat, and some of the Ministry’s leading collaborators for an informative conversation on the reasons for the hunger strike that had just started and to find out the requests and farmers’ concerns.

Dr. D’Aragona took note of the requests represented and the requests to hold a meeting of the Coordination with the political bodies of the Government and to have certainties on the appointment of the National Commissioner; after having given an account of the work “that the ministerial offices are ensuring to resolve technical issues useful for promoting solutions quickly” and having underlined the need to compose measures that live up to expectations on both a technical, scientific and institutional level, he assured the his commitment to verify the possible responses to the requests with the Minister and the Undersecretary

“We are awaiting developments that the Ministry will propose to us, acknowledging that, once again, we have found positive and useful forms of dialogue. It is clear that we need concrete steps and, therefore, we remain available to set up a discussion table on the merits of the issues while, from the garrison where my, Adriano Noviello and Sebastiano Lombardo’s hunger strike is taking place, we launch a message to southern farmers: it’s time for unity and to positively close a dispute that opened three years ago. This is why we remain mobilized, calling everyone to support the initiative and follow its developments”
