Society: Taranto, tomorrow a meeting on “Are Christians still needed in politics?”
Descriptive text here

“While international political leaders talk with ever greater ease about the possibility of a world conflict and humanity’s expectations for the future are seriously endangered, local politics talks about a moral issue that seems to have many protagonists, interpreters and extras . Fewer and fewer people are going to vote and young people often appear fearful of the future and unaccustomed to great ideals, dreams and values. Ours is a humanity in evident crisis, where people’s lives themselves seem to count for very little and where the community culture, often enunciated, does not find correspondence in real choices”. We can read it in the presentation note of the meeting which will take place tomorrow, Thursday 18 April, at 5.30 pm in the Sala Resta of the Taranto chamber of commerce, entitled “Are Christians still needed in politics?”. As “Christians involved in politics, we wish to try to reflect on whether the culture of peace, the centrality of the person, respect for diversity and the need to build community scenarios still represent achievable values in politics or are they exclusively pre-political values valid for life of individuals and not for those of states, local communities, the world”.
There will be Msgr. Savino (vice president of the Italian Episcopal Conference), Graziano Del Rio (former Minister of the Republic), Ernesto Preziosi (national president of Argomenti 2000), Paolo Ciani (national secretary of Demos). Luigi Giorgi (Don Sturzo center) and Patrizia Giunti (president of the La Pira Foundation). Gianni Liviano will introduce the meeting.
