A vast fire has hit the countryside of Sarroch, in the Cagliari area, forcing the evacuation of some country houses. The flames, fueled by a strong mistral wind, required massive intervention by the emergency services, including two Canadairs, one of which suffered a breakdown and had to interrupt operations.

The alleged person responsible for the fire has been identified by the Forestry Corps: he is a 60-year-old man, who will be reported for negligent fire. According to initial reconstructions, the man was burning some branches when, due to the strong wind, he lost control of the fire. On site, fire brigade teams, the Forestry Corps and numerous volunteers are working tirelessly to contain the flames, which have now moved to a ridge away from the homes and are under control. Despite the interruption of the second Canadair’s aerial activity due to adverse weather conditions, ground operations continue effectively.

Around fifteen people have been evacuated from their homes as a precautionary measure and will spend a few hours outside while the fight against the fire continues. The authorities are carefully monitoring the situation and have implemented all necessary measures to ensure the safety of the population and contain the environmental disaster as quickly as possible.
