Carried out as part of “ComunicarEuropa in Campania”, the awareness day had the aim of bringing very young first voters closer to the world of European institutions, in view of the imminent electoral round scheduled for 8 and 9 June 2024. an appointment that sees the Municipality of Naples, through its centre Europe Direct, involved in various parallel initiatives aimed at informing children and adults about the importance of voting. During today, carried out in synergy with the departments of Youth and Education, pupils from various institutes in the Campania capital had a privileged opportunity to experience first-hand the importance of the European institutions.

«Today’s event – says the councilor for youth policies and employment Palazzo San GiacomoChiara Marciani – has a dual purpose. On the one hand, through the initiatives that the children have carried out in schools, we wanted to create a sort of practical handbook on how to vote in the European elections. The second objective is to strengthen the idea of Europe.”

During the meeting, moderated by the journalist Giuliana Covellathe professor Gianluca Luise, professor of history of political institutions at the Federico II University of Naples, illustrated to the children the history of Europe and its institutional bodies. Finally, at the end of the day, the social contest “Europe for me” was also launched, aimed at promoting European Union programs and its opportunities, and will end on 9 May on the occasion of Europe Day.

«Our young people – he concludes Marciani – have always been accustomed to a single currency and the possibility of traveling easily to three different countries of the Union, but with the contest launched today we also want to remember what Europe does for us and, specifically, for the city of Naples. We asked the kids to tell us, through Instagram videos or photos, what Europe is for them and the opportunities it offers.”
