The ‘Gran Galà dell’Olio’ returns between fairs and round tables

A round table on sustainability, to find proposals and solutions. It is the main novelty of the 2024 edition of the Gran Galà dell’Olio, scheduled in the center of the Pincio of Fano on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st April. Promoting it, as always, is Expolea, which for a weekend will once again transform the city into the international capital of extra virgin olive oil, given the presence of the best oil production from various countries around the world.

A sector that always remains central, also precious from the point of view of gastronomic culture. Despite all the difficulties of the moment. The event, organized under the direction of OLEA, was carried out in collaboration with the Municipality of Fano, with the patronage of MASAF – Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry, the Marche Region, the Marche Regional Council, the Province of Pesaro and Urbino, of the Cassa di Risparmio di Fano Foundation, of the BCC of Fano and of other bodies and institutions, the collaboration of the Viandanti dei Sapori Association and the A. Cecchi Agricultural Technical Institute of Pesaro. But where do the queen companies of the ‘oil with their proposals? Significant representation from the Marche and the DOP Cartoceto area, then Puglia, Emilia Romagna, Umbria, Sardinia and beyond. There was also a large delegation of Croatian olive growers from Istria.

Showcasing the best producers, the most important labels and the most distinguished mills. For connoisseurs, an unmissable opportunity also thanks to a rich program which, as mentioned, this year also includes a round table – Saturday at 3pm in the San Domenico Art Gallery – entitled ‘Sustainability of olive growing. Ideas, proposals and solutions’, in which producers and representatives of OLEA will take part, but also university professors and researchers, consortia for the protection of PDO and PGI and the agriculture councilor of the Marche Region Andrea Maria Antonini.

Then perhaps the most awaited part, namely the third edition of the ‘Oil Salon’, a real fair in which local and Italian companies will participate with their best oils and products. The appointment is for Sunday from 9am to 7.30pm. During the day there will also be space for children, with moments of tasting thanks to olfactory games, as the name of the initiative ‘Il Nosino d’Oro’ suggests, an opportunity to make them appreciate true quality oil from an early age. The program in detail on www.olea.info and www.oroditalia.info.

“Everyone will be able to get to know and taste the best products of the Italian and Mediterranean sector – explained the president of the OLEA Aps association Renzo Ceccacci -, in the splendid setting of the Pincio and against the backdrop of the Arch of Augustus. A crucial moment, then, was the awards ceremony on Saturday afternoon for the 15th edition of the national competition ‘L’Oro d’Italia’, but also for the 13th edition of the international competition ‘L’Oro del Mediterraneo’”.

For the director of Olea Giorgio Sorcinelli “it is a pride to bring the oils protagonists of the competitions to the ‘street’. This initiative – he added – has now become a national and international point of reference. An opportunity to raise awareness of the products and their nutritional and health qualities, helping to promote the consumption of high quality oils, and not of dubious quality, composition and origin”.
