The Democratic Party of Monfalconein collaboration with Federation of Goriziaorganized a public meeting on the topic of protection of public health. The event took place last Saturday, at the Palazzetto Veneto in via Sant’Ambrogio: “Health is a right! Public health, the only guarantee”.

After greetings from provincial secretary Sara Vito And of the regional councilor Laura Fasiolocomponent of Third Health Commissionthey intervened Alberto Peratoner, regional president of the Italian Hospital Anesthetists Association responsible for Asugi emergency departments; And Lorenzo Cociani, forensic and general medicine doctor, regional secretary of Smi Fvg. The meeting was moderated by leader of the Democratic Party in the city council, Lucia Giurissa.

The overview on emergency and emergency medicine was declined on several points: starting from unique power station in Palmanova “which has in fact been transformed into a telephone switchboard to which largely improper requests from citizens are made” explains regional councilor Laura Fasiolo. Only 15% are red codes, i.e. true emergencies, as many as 45% are green codes and an even more worrying 20% are white codes. Even 20% of calls are resolved without hospitalization.

These are improper accesses that flow into the emergency room, often clogged with a flow of users that are difficult to manage and reduced to bivouacs due to a lack of beds. After this first theme, the problem represented by the shortage of “24 hour ambulances”. «Our ambulances are not enough because they serve very large areas up to San Giorgio di Nogaro, Cervignano, Ruda and Gradisca where there are none during the night phase – illustrates Fasiolo – there is a shortage of medical and nursing cars which would certainly be more effective of the second helicopter rescue vehicle practically unused in the last 24 months”.

On the shortage of healthcare personnel to the emergency room and the consequent frequent outsourcing to cooperatives, «The companies – Cociani observed – are lacking in trained doctors. Unfortunately for general medicine only 23, out of the 50 places available, are enrolled in the three-year training in the Isonzo area. Furthermore, scholarships of 6 thousand euros are not attractive, just as other specializations, such as radiology, are not attractive. Young graduates are looking for easier solutions and the conditions of public health need lead to giving in to low profile choices, even among new non-specialised graduates, to the detriment of professionalism”.

Sara Vito also spoke on the topic of Asap. A problem resulting from this aspect is the risk of privatization of healthcare with waiting lists that affect citizens’ health.

Regional councilor Laura Fasiolo then summarized her commitment and that of the Regional Health Commission group. On that occasion, it emerged that “given the over 2.7 billion euros invested in the Budget, the FVG finds itself in clear rearguard positions compared to other regions”. «In response to Riccardi’s request to develop a collaboration capable of overcoming the serious crisis – continues Fasiolo – our proposals and amendments to stability are snubbed and mocked, only to be proposed as their own after some time. This style is not collaboration. Nor is the unwillingness to maintain the universal, fair and supportive public health service, the three fundamental principles on which our system is based and for whose defense we are fighting resolutely.”

Cristina Carloni, retired general practitioner, supported the function of taking care of the patient by the general practitioner, «a function that the Asap will never be able to manage» he stated. Furthermore, Carloni hoped for the rapid overcoming of the Asap and a normalization of the system. «We cannot get used to the idea that public health is reduced to a minimum – concluded the dem Giurissa – we must ensure that the demographic characteristics of each territory find an adequate and calibrated quality of care in terms of prevention and continuity of care outside and inside hospitals. It is an objective to be built together, leaving aside the politics of announcements.”
