In the role of shogun of Wano, as well as an ally of the Mugiwara, Momonosuke he rightfully carved out a significant role in the universe of one piece. And although on the true nature of his potential Oda has not yet fully shed light, it is possible to deduce from some clues disseminated by the mangaka the real depth (even dramatic) of the character.
Moreover, as we have seen in our analysis of the Devil Fruits which may have already been cloned in One Piece, a good part of the future trajectories of the manga, and in particular of the power relations in the New World, will pass from the development and improvement of the potential of these phantom artefacts of the Sea. And Momonosuke himself, having absorbed that artificial fruit which, according to Vegapunk’s intentions, was to reiterate the typical properties of the Woh Woh: blue dragon model by Kaido, could represent the matrix through which to begin to probe the effects of such cloning; which open up, in themselves, to phenomena that transcend mere scientific experimentation.
Although the heir of the Kozuki is not endowed with the same fighting abilities as the Emperor from whom he borrowed the Fruit, it is also true that Momonosuke has already shown possess similar skills – or at least, similar – to those of Kaido, thus alluding to the existence of a latent potential that is dormant but of great depth. And in the event that the young shogun of the country of Wa began to undertake – as one might expect – a consistent training coursebased on the improvement of the artificial properties of the Fruit, in addition to his own innate abilities, Momonosuke could really eviscerate an unexpected powerthus allowing Oden’s son to participate – who knows – alongside the Mugiwara in that final conflict between pirates and government institutions on which one of the next macro arcs into which the final saga of One Piece is divided could be based.
And precisely in reference to the father, we can identify the factors that will set the boy on an important path of evolution. After all, Momonosuke is in possession of the Ame no Habakirior the famous sword from which Oden has passed through all the destinies of the Kozuki clan and in which he has channeled the very symbol of his power, so the possibility that Oda leads the character to sublimate the potential of the katanaand perhaps also to innervate it with new ramifications, is not so remote or risky.
But it is clear that when we reflect on the narrative positioning of Momonosuke, on what it may mean for the continuation of the story, the discussion can only fall back on the function – and not so much on the mere combative potential – which the character will tend towards in the continuation of the final saga. We know, in fact, that the shōgun possesses the ability to perceive the “voice of all things”: a factor, this, which if developed by the boy, will lead him to undermine the great secrets of the world of One Piece. Tracing – who knows – for Luffy himself the route that will lead him to sublimate the most hidden desires of his soul.
