Dead at work in Sieci (Fi), tomorrow Cgil-Cisl-Uil garrison in front of the company

Died at work in Sieci (Pontassieve), tomorrow Saturday 30 March Cgil-Cisl-Uil protest in front of the company in via Bellini at 11 am.
The note from Giancarla Casini (CGIL Florence secretariat), Erika Caparrini (CISL Florence-Prato secretariat), Leonardo Mugnaini (Uil Florence coordinator):
“There’s a lot of anger. Losing a human life at work practically every day is not acceptable, it is inexcusable that a worker goes out in the morning to do his job and does not return home in the evening. In the specific case, we will carefully evaluate whether there have been underestimations of workplace safety or any critical issues regarding correct contractual applications. In May 2023, a protocol was signed on the topic between the Union of Valdarno-Valdisieve Municipalities and the trade unions: it must be given legs.
Every institution, every body, every association must take its own responsibilities, because we all must stop this steady stream of deaths at work. The issue of safety at work must be the priority of this country: the staff of the control bodies, which are experiencing serious shortages, must be expanded and the synergy between the subjects who deal with them must be strengthened. In this sense, we ask to enhance the role of the permanent territorial sections and to activate a table for safety at work coordinated by the Prefecture, the local representative of the Government, where all the relevant subjects are involved, from the Municipalities as territorial health authorities up to the bodies control”

Death at work in Pontassieve (Fi), Fiom and Uilm: “Still silence from the Government and employers’ associations”

Given the accident that occurred yesterday in Sieci (Pontassieve), we are once again faced with a death at work, a few days after the multiple massacre in Via Mariti in Florence. In addition to the dynamics, we are not yet aware of the type of contract applied to the worker, whether a metalworker or other, and whether he was a direct employee of the company or external. This is not acceptable and in addition to reporting the incident, we believe it is essential to strengthen the collaboration between the trade union organizations and the Hygiene and Safety Prevention Services in the workplace (PISLL) of the ASL of the Florentine area, asking for the application of existing agreements, such as the one signed last June 19th which, in the absence of workers’ safety representatives, following ASL inspections, provides for information to trade union organisations. For all this, we appeal to our confederations so that on April 11th, a 4-hour national strike day called by CGIL and UIL in all private sectors, there will be territorial initiatives and demonstrations useful not only to raise public awareness of the drama of deaths at work but also to denounce for the umpteenth time the deafening silence of the Government and employers’ associations. You can’t die from work, you have to live from work. We invite all metalworkers in the province of Florence to participate in the initiatives that will be organized on Thursday 11 April 2024.
