A 25 meter flight into the sea, with the quad, cost the life of Oriana Bertolino, Sicilian volleyball player 31 years old, from Marsala, died yesterday on the island of Gozo, a Malta. The vehicle was driven by a 47-year-old man from Marsala, who was saved. The quad fell into the sea from a cliff, around 8pm, near “Wied il-Mielah”, near Gharb. It would appear that the driver lost control due to steering problems, but managed to escape to safety. The young Oriana, however, fell, probably dying from injuries sustained after the impact.
The victim was attending one group excursionaiming to watch the sunset from a vantage point on the cliff. The Malta Police reported that, thinking they would be late for the sunset, the group drove their quads at high speed on a dirt road. Hence the tragedy. A search has now been opened for this reason. investigation.
