Hotel Barcelona has returned to show itself after a few months of radio silence, with a new gameplay trailer and a gallery of images of the 2.5D action developed by Suda51 (author of No More Heroes) and Swery65 (Deadly Premonition), which you can view below.

In the video we see the protagonist Justine slicing up numerous enemies with her sword and a pair of circular saws. We are also introduced to some bosses, including horrible giant disfigured dolls, ravenous sharks and a gruesome chimera made up of a rooster, a bull and other animals in a wheelchair and armed with a saw. The video reiterates the game launch during 2024 on PC (Steam), PS5 and Xbox Series X|S and therefore we will have to wait for further news to know a precise release date.

What is Hotel Barcelona?

Hotel Barcelona is described by its authors as a “action parody of slasher films” with 2.5D style platform elements, which mixes horror and other ironic elements. In the game we take on the role of Justine, a novice federal marshal within whom lives the spirit of a mad serial killer called Dr. Carnival. Despite herself, she will find herself trapped in Hotel Barcelona, a luxurious resort outside Pittsburgh, where strangely all the serial killers on the loose in the United States have gathered.

The game is structured in levels set in seven different locations, each based on a different horror film. An interesting mechanic concerns game overs: every time Justine dies, she will restart the level but she will be accompanied by some Slasher Phantomor illusions of past versions of herself, which can attack enemies and act as bait in the player’s place.
