Apple releases iOS 17.5 and iPadOS 17.5

Apple has officially released iOS 17.5, giving iPhone users cross-platform tracking detection, the ability to download apps directly from developer websites, and more. The update is available together with iPadOS 17.5.

iOS 17.5 and iPadOS 17.5 can be downloaded via OTA to eligible iPhones and iPads by going to Settings > General > Software Update.

In the European Union, iOS 17.5 offers support for web-based app distribution. iPhone users can download apps directly from developer websites, without the need to use the App Store.

There are new features for Apple News+, such as offline mode, and tracking notifications are now available cross-platform for alerts about Bluetooth trackers regardless of platform.

Here is Apple’s complete changelog:

Lock screen

  • There’s a new “Pride Rays” wallpaper for your lock screen that celebrates the LGBTQ+ community and its culture.

Tracking notifications

  • Cross-platform tracking detection sends notifications if another person’s compatible Bluetooth tracking device is moving with you for a certain period of time, regardless of the operating system the device was paired with.
