The April 2024 Windows security updates have caused serious problems for many users using VPN connections. As confirmed by Microsoft on its support portal, users of different versions of Windows are experiencing connection errors with your VPNs after installing the updates released in April.

Microsoft says the April 2024 security updates and non-security preview updates from the same month are causing interruptions in VPN connections between clients and servers on different platforms. The affected Windows versions are different: Windows 11, Windows 10, Windows Server 2022, 2019, 2016, 2012 R2, 2012, 2008 R2 And 2008.

The support team also stated that they are aware of user reports and have opened an investigation into the issue, promising more information in the near future. At the moment, a detailed description of the causes has not been released, however it has provided detailed procedures to temporarily work around the bug. To remove the latest cumulative update after installing the combined SSU and LCU package, use the DISM/Remove-Package command-line option with the LCU package name as the argument. You can find the package name using this command:DISM /online /get-packages.

It is important to note that uninstalling cumulative updates will remove all implemented fixes, including security ones. For home users who need support with their personal or family accounts, Microsoft recommends using the Request Support feature, while small and large business customers who need help can contact the company via the dedicated portal.
