Google will soon close its famous service: the official announcement

Users will soon have to say goodbye to one of Google’s most popular services, to which many were even subscribed.

Google has often made headlines not only for groundbreaking innovations but also for surprising business decisions. One of these concerns the closure of services that, despite initial popularity or profit, they have not proven sustainable in the long term or they no longer align with the company’s strategic vision.

Google has announced the global shutdown of one of its most popular services – computer-idea.it

Over the years, we have seen the closure of platforms such as Google+an attempt to compete with Facebook in the social media space, and Google Reader, a once-beloved aggregator of RSS feeds. While sometimes unpopular, these decisions reflect the dynamic nature of the tech industry, where change is the only constant.

Closures are often motivated by the desire to concentrate resources on projects considered more promising or innovative. Google has shown that it has no scruples in dealing with deadwood if this allows for more luxuriant growth in other areas, and recently even one of its most popular services has fallen victim to these dynamics.

Goodbye to one of the services most appreciated by users

Recently, Google announced the imminent closure of another of its services: Google Podcasts. Launched to facilitate access and management of podcasts through a dedicated platform, will be decommissioned globally. The app will officially shut down for users outside the United States in June, and the company has announced that it will grant a limited time window for content migration.

The shutdown of Google Podcasts was first announced through the YouTube Music Help Center, prompting users to switch to the platform. According to Google, “users outside the United States will be able to use Google Podcasts until mid-June 2024. All users worldwide can migrate or export their subscriptions to Google Podcasts until July 29th“.

This move marks the end of an era for podcast enthusiasts who used the app to listen to their favorite shows. The migration process it is relatively simple: Users must open the Google Podcasts app.

At this point click on the “Export subscription” located at the top of the screen, and follow the instructions to export everything to YouTube Music. After the export is complete, you need to download the YouTube Music app and proceed with the transfer of your account.
