The Defender story

Since the Series 1 in 1948, the Defender has always been synonymous with great all-terrain capabilities. The Defender brand is backed by Land Rover, a brand built on 75 years of technological expertise and world-class off-road capabilities. The Defender was designed and engineered in the UK, is sold in 121 countries and is an integral part of the JLR brands alongside Range Rover, Discovery and Jaguar. Defender is available in the 90, 110 and 130 versions, up to a maximum of eight seats, and each of them has its own charisma.

As part of a sustainable and Modern Luxury vision, the Defender 110 is also available in an electric hybrid version. Available in the 90 and 110 variants, the Defender Hard Top is synonymous with business and professional activities that require high capabilities.

The new flagship Defender Octa will be the most durable, capable and luxurious model in the range and will allow the brand to explore new territories.

The Defender OCTA name and distinctive graphics are representative of the vehicle’s strength, robustness and desirability, as well as its luxury credentials.

The car will reach an even higher level, with an assertive posture, innovative technology and unprecedented attention to detail. With its astonishing performance and bolder personality, it will allow customers to tackle the most epic adventures in ultimate luxury.

Mark Cameron, managing director of the Defender brand:

The Defender OCTA will be equipped with a powerful V8 Twin Turbo mild-hybrid petrol engine and the innovative 6D Dynamics air suspension, which will ensure extreme performance on all terrains. Available for the first time on the Defender, 6D Dynamics will give the OCTA model an unrivaled breadth of capability, comfort and composure, both on and off road. Ahead of its unveiling later this year, potential customers will be invited to participate in exclusive previews, which will be an integral part of a new global series of Defender Elements.

The inspiration

The octahedron shape of diamonds was the source of inspiration for the new name OCTAwhich also reflects its luxury credentials: the diamond is in fact the hardest natural substance on Earth and highly precious due to its rarity.

As a result, a new circled diamond graphic pattern characterizes this top-of-the-range Defender model which will feature on a number of internal and external components, including a gloss black diamond set within a sandblasted titanium disc on each Signature Graphic panel. Titanium was also chosen for its strength and resilience to the elements in its natural state.

Jaguar Land Rover’s Reimagine strategy

It’s about a highly sustainable vision of Modern Luxury through design. JLR is a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Motors Limited, part of Tata Sons and they are transforming the business to become carbon net zero across our supply chain, our products and operations by 2039. Electrification is at the heart of this strategy and before the end of the decade the Range Rover, Discovery and Defender lines will each have a purely electric model, while Jaguar will be entirely electric, advantages and disadvantages included.
