We are talking about Home Assistant which, as stated, is now part of the Open Home Foundation. With the newly built non-profit organization that will therefore own and govern all of Home Assistant and its related entities.
The target, as stated in the press release, it is “fight against surveillance capitalism and offer a counterweight to big tech’s influence in the smart home, focusing on privacy, choice and sustainability for smart home users“.
This new platform will be built by the community. And it will differentiate itself from competitors such as Amazon Alexa and Google Home as it will be able to offer four advantages at the same time. That is, the local home control, authority and access to the datacompatibility with almost all connected gadgets and the possibility of doing them working together.
