The social media giant, Meta has in fact changed some rules, and by virtue of this change it is expected that the use of WhatsApp will become oceanic. In fact, a new age limit has been introduced in the United Kingdom, the threshold for using the app has gone from 16 to 13 years. This means that children in their early teens will be able to use the platform.
This revolution has raised quite a bit of controversy on the part of associations for the protection of children, the change announced in February 2024 will come into force shortly. Meta, the company that acquired WhatsApp, justified this decision, on its website we read that the changes are aimed at guaranteeing: “A consistent minimum age requirement for WhatsApp globally”.
The local association for the protection of minors has advanced criticism, blaming the shareholders of the messaging service to put profits come first rather than the safety of minors. Representatives of the British Conservative Party shouted that the change was irresponsible, and the shareholders did not wait to respond.
