Sony is no stranger to registering patents focused on technological innovations that are potentially useful and interesting if put into practice: think for example of Sony’s patent for playing games while downloading. Now another one has emerged that could make enthusiasts discuss.

The Japanese giant has in fact recently patented a real one auto-play system for gamesspecifically described as a “method and system for auto-playing portions of a game” which would therefore allow deal automatically certain sequences of a title, such as grinding phases or more tedious and repetitive moments. A system of this kind is actually already applied by mobile and MMORPG titles, but it cannot be ruled out that the Japanese company also wants to use it for productions present on platforms PlayStation.

The fact that Sony has registered such a patent it doesn’t mean necessarily which will materialize in practice and could even end in nothing. At the same time, however, it means that the company is actually thinking about a way to implement some auto-play system in its games in the future. At this point all that remains is to find out if similar solutions will actually be applied, on which games and in what way.

Still on the subject, Sony has also previously patented an adaptive difficulty system that changes in real time depending on the skills demonstrated by users.
