Microsoft will not fix error 0x80070643

In early January, update KB5034441 was released for Windows 10, with the aim of fixing a vulnerability related to BitLocker. Unfortunately, for a considerable number of users, starting the process for installing the update led to the appearance of theerror KB5034441. The same problem also appeared on the PCs of those who tried to download the KB5001716 package in March. The software house has just declared that it will do nothing to fix it.

No Patch for Error 0x80070643 on Windows 10

In fact, the hitch interrupts setup, preventing the procedure from being completed successfully. The cause was identified in the size of the recovery partition (please refer to the original article for all the details), which was not sufficient to contain the new image of the Recovery Environment (WinRE).

In an official support document just edited by Microsoft we read that Automatic resolution for this issue will not be available in a future Windows update, manual steps are required to complete the installation of this update on devices that are experiencing the error.

Translated: Users have to solve it themselves, following one of the two options recommended. The first involves executing a script, the second involves manually resizing the partition, following an official guide. Both alternatives could cause some headaches for the less experienced.

Microsoft’s choice is undoubtedly destined to raise eyebrows. In fact, it should not be forgotten that Windows 10 is still there today most popular operating system version, with a market share that exceeds 69% of the overall share (source StatCounter, data updated at the end of March 2024), which has curiously returned to growth in recent months. The successor Windows 11, despite the software house’s efforts, is stuck below the 27% threshold and is losing ground. Unfortunately, problems arising during or immediately after the installation of released updates are becoming a constant.
