A unknown planet it could be hiding near Earth. An anomalous behavior at the edge of the solar system sent out a signal, which was picked up by astronomers who are studying a very distant portion of space. In this case there are objects, which orbit at a distance from the Sun 250 times greater than that of our planet, which would prove its presence. Here’s what the experts found and why they talk about statistical evidence.
Statistical evidence for the existence of Planet 9 found
“Together with my team we have found further evidence indicating the existence of the unknown planet. The new work represents the stronger statistical evidence that Planet Nine is really out there,” said Konstantin Bogytin, an astronomer who helped popularize the Planet 9 theory.
While looking for a habitable planet besides ours, the analysis of trans-Neptunian objects, also known as TNOs, has made it possible to understand that something in Space affects the orbit of some celestial bodies located beyond the planet Neptune. These are unstable and difficult to study elements that did not immediately have the importance they deserve. If they were initially excluded precisely for this reason, now their movements have become the fulcrum of evidence of the existence of Planet 9. “The most plausible theory is that they come from another planet not yet discovered”, explained Konstantin Bogytin.
The research team has completed a series of simulations to understand how the orbits of these objects were influenced by a number of factors. In fact, planets such as Neptune and the so-called “galactic tide”, which comes from the Milky Way and the stars, have an impact.
A greater understanding of the existence or otherwise of Planet 9 and the fact that other celestial bodies are not acting on the orbits of these objects, however, will be had as soon as theVera C Rubin Observatory. It is located in Chile and is still under construction but, once started, it will be able to accurately scan the portion of the sky where these distant and mysterious objects are located.
“This upcoming exploration phase promises to provide relevant insights into the mysteries of outer regions of our solar system”, concluded the authors of the study and who knows, the existence of a new planet Earth will not be confirmed.
What is Planet 9 or Planet X and why is it discussed
Planet X – trans-Neptunian or Planet 9 – is still entirely hypothetical and it would be beyond Neptune and the plutoids: from this factor of uncertainty derives the X of unknown.
Many astronomers, at the end of the 19th century, hypothesized the existence of an unknown planet. Starting from discovery of Neptune – which occurred through mathematical calculations and orbital discrepancies of Uranus, Jupiter and Saturn – it is thought that the same could happen with another unknown celestial body.
Everything is based, therefore, on differences between theoretical and real orbits of the planets already known, but confirmation of actual evidence is awaited which attests to the veracity of hypotheses that have already been denied in the past.
