Google updates Maps and Search with sustainable directions – Future Tech

On the occasion of Earth Day on April 22, Google takes a further step to support sustainable choices by those who use its services.

The company is updating two of its main apps, Maps and Search, with more information about transportation that reduces carbon emissions. In Rome, as in other cities in the world, Google Maps will show more suggestions on pedestrian or bicycle transport, if the travel times are comparable to those by car. Additionally, the maps will provide more data on public transport, such as live waiting times. To date, Google Maps already displays alternative choices to the car but Big G’s desire is to highlight sustainability options, such as traveling on foot, in a separate box when using the smartphone. Google will also rely on artificial intelligence to better organize travel. And AI is responsible for integrating into Maps not only indications on where to find charging stations for electric vehicles but also on the actual quality of the service, as a result of the feedback given by other users. On the merits of the web search, the company has made it known that by typing terms that imply answers on the methods of transport between locations, you will soon see both the summaries of the trip and the costs associated with it and the opportunity to purchase a ticket with fewer clicks .

Italy is one of the countries for which this information will be integrated into the research, both for trips within the same city and for long-distance trips.
