On the occasion of the Misano Formula E ePrix (here to find out more), we had the opportunity to participate in the test sessions of the new one Maserati GranTurismo Folgore, the electric version of the elegant Italian coupé. So, how does it behave on the track? Far from the limits imposed by the Highway Code, it can unleash all its power. What is striking is that, despite the 2,260 kg of weight due to the battery, the car (which PSA seemed perfectly at ease between the curbs of the Misano circuit, literally remaining glued to the asphalt.
This is also possible thanks to an arrangement of the electrical components that imitates the weight balance of its petrol “sister”, with the 92 kWh battery pack arranged in a “T”, where the six-cylinder and automatic transmission are normally located 8 gears. I approximately 400 kg more of the Maserati GranTurismo Folgore compared to the petrol Trofeo you can’t hear it, with the car moving in a very agile between one curb and another. The Trident electric has a good rating balancing and it is really complex to put it into difficulty, despite the inertia brought by the accumulator.
The push that the Maserati GranTurismo Folgore imprime is powerful, thanks to the three electric motors (one at the front and two at the rear) that guarantee 761 HP of power and well 1,350 Nm of torque, which guarantee a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds and a top speed of 325 km/h. The current motors were engineered by FPT Industrial and are powered by 800 V.
On the track you can perceive the refined mechanics of the Maserati GranTurismo Folgore; nothing is left to chance, with all engine components, including inverters, integrated into the axles. The handling and the dynamic qualities they are then guaranteed by the fact that the two rear axle motors, one for each wheel, act in absolute independence, with very rapid and precise torque vectoring, especially when exiting fast corners.
