Modder YveltalGriffin converted one PS1 in a portable console working called “PS Hanami”, complete with almost all the most important functions. A device that would certainly delight many nostalgic players.

Described as “an old-school portable console with a lot of glue”, the author of this trinket claims to have used a seven-inch screen with 480p resolution, speakers and an internal battery that offers about 2 and a half hours of battery life per charge.

The sacrifices of transformation

To be able to fit all the PS1 hardware into a small device, YveltalGriffin has cut the motherboard in half of the console, and then fold it as if it were a sheet of paper. The result is a very compact console, slightly larger than a PS Vita.

The conversion from fixed console to portable console required the sacrifice of the CD playerreplaced by a hard disk with an optical reader emulator (ODE) called vibration, but without analog sticks.

By the author’s own admission the console is not without flaws, in addition to the absence of the aforementioned analog sticks, for example it also lacks a controller to adjust the volume, an effective dissipation system and the power button is very sensitive and just touching it can involuntarily turn off the device while playing. The result is nevertheless remarkable.
