Removable batteries are often required to operate various technological devices. Let’s think for example about the TV remote control, but also to games, scales, medical devices and much more. We usually use different types of batteries based on the use we have of them and the device where we will have to insert them. The most popular are certainly the alkaline ones, i.e. the classic ones: the most famous are obviously the Duracell ones. However, there are also other types of batteries: many will have seen the so-called ones at least once button batteries. But what exactly are they and why are they used?
These batteries have this name because their format resembles that of a button. They are batteries designed and created to power small devices. Let’s think for example of watches, or very small medical devices or perhaps hearing aids.
Button batteries: Keep them away from children, here’s why
Button batteries are characterized by various types of materials: they may in fact contain lithium, silver and zinc based on the purpose for which they will be used. The chemical reaction between the metals found inside the button batteries ensures their functioning.
This type of battery clearly has an important advantage, namely the ability to guarantee a certain level of energy in a very small space. However, even with button batteries you have to be very careful about a real risk.
The very small size of button batteries, in fact, represents a far from trivial danger for the little ones. Children could ingest them unintentionally: what happens in these cases? What should you do if your little one swallows a button battery?
It should be said right away that in most cases the battery will go down without causing any harm to the child. However, it cannot be ruled out that the button battery may become stuck in the esophagus. This eventuality is the real risk, so much so that if action is not taken in time it can even be fatal.
Immediate medical intervention can save the child’s life
They are above all lithium button batteries to risk getting stuck in the digestive tract. This is because compared to other models they have a slightly larger diameter and a higher electrical power.
