The crisis of memories is now a consolidated reality in recent months, but we are still waiting to understand how much this will affect the prices of hardware components, with prospects that seem catastrophic: a new report reports that, for example, the GPU NVIDIA RTX 5090 could reach the price of $5000 in 2026.
The situation is indeed desperate on the consumer PC hardware front: prices have already increased substantially, while the scarcity of available memories has forced NVIDIA to tell its partner manufacturers to find the VRAM themselves, given the impossibility of providing them centrally.
Difficulties in finding video memories could lead to major changes in the production and supply of GPUswith rumors claiming the possible total removal of the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB from the market.
Crazy prices in 2026
Already expensive GPU models under normal conditions could catch up impressive pricesand among these the RTX 5090 is the one that risks becoming practically unattainable by “normal” users, also considering what recent reports say.
In particular, Newsis reports that the production cost of NVIDIA’s flagship 5000 series model could increase dramatically in the coming months.
The RAM crisis also affects NVIDIA: a reduction in RTX 50 production is expected
If before it was around $1,999 (2.86 million won) at the beginning of 2025, around 2026 it could more than doublereaching $5,000 (around 7.15 million won), which would make the hardware in question very difficult to purchase for a large part of users.
On the other hand, also AMD will not remain immune to these price increases, with increases expected in particular for the RX 9000 series GPUs, whose prices will continue to grow with increases at a practically monthly rate during 2026, as well as NVIDIA’s RTX 5000.
On the other hand, the problems related to these hardware components will also affect the console market: as we have seen, the exorbitant cost of memories could lead to a delay in the next generation, with PS6 and the new Xbox which could be postponed compared to the initial plans.
