Interviewed by Gazzetta dello Sport, the Nerazzurri goalkeeper returns to Switzerland’s great performance which eliminated Italy
Two days after the match that saw Italy exit badly from the European Championships, Yann Sommer returned to the great match carried out by his Switzerland at the Olimpiastadio. “There is the happiness and awareness of having played a great match against a great opponent. I only have positive thoughts in my head: I’m happy with how we entered the game and how we always stayed there“, says the Inter goalkeeper interviewed by the Gazzetta dello Sport.
Italy, however, did its part.

«I didn’t see a weak Italy, I saw a Switzerland that performed great».
The match was won in all respects. Can you point to one?

“We made life difficult for Italy by playing very aggressively, we were good at recovering the ball and at executing quickly. We played with a lot of quality.”
And to be honest, Switzerland also seemed more motivated.

“No, I wouldn’t say that. I think instead that we had much more energy to spend. We led the game from start to finish: doing so against a great national team is something that gives us confidence. And we already had a great performance against Germany: our value is evident.”
Is this a good year for you to get to the bottom of a big tournament?

«The important thing is to think that you have not reached the maximum. What is certain is that if we play like this in the next matches too, with this intensity, we have a great chance of winning again and reaching the end.”
